Lower cost ETFs now transaction-free on TD Ameritrade

October 25, 2017  | By Kevin Smith

Good news! Our preferred custodian, TD Ameritrade, recently announced that they are overhauling their offering of Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) that trade without commissions. Here are a few key improvements:

  • The list of ETFs that transact without trading costs will expand from 100 to 296 this month.
  • Introduction of SPDR ETFs, which now have among the lowest management fees in the industry… even lower than Vanguard ETFs in some categories.
  • No more short-term redemption fees associated with selling an ETF that was purchased within the past 30 days. This makes your investments more liquid.

What does this mean for you? If you have an account with us at TD Ameritrade, the already low management fees you pay will likely be even lower on average. Depending on the size, risk level, and tax implications of your portfolio, you may see some transactions in the next several weeks that take advantage of this improved offering of ETFs.
